Cruachan Aí was the home of the Warrior Queen, Medb of Connacht, and is most famously remembered for being the location where the Táin Bó Cúailnge, (the Cattle Raid of Cooley), begins and brutally ends. Queen Medb has been incorporated into the fabric of this ancient vista through the oral tradition of storytelling, but is also echoed in the history of the monuments themselves.
The Táin Bo Cúailnge starts its dramatic journey north from the main mound at Rathcroghan at 10 am on a hopefully sunny morning, Sunday 24th May, 2015. This event has been running with great success in and around the Cooley Peninsula for the last number of years and this is the first time they have ventured into the heart of Connacht to start this march in the place where it all began and we’re very happy to be involved.
Part of the Irish Army will be marching at the event as well as re-enactors and historians, TV news and the newspapers and Rathcroghan’s Medb to send them off to victory. The March will be a great opportunity to dress up as warriors, druids, princesses and poets and come along to enjoy one of the greatest stories from the ancient world.  If you would like to get more involved than watching the send-off or even strolling alongside some handsome soldiers, then why not pay a visit to the Visitor Centre, in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon next Saturday, 16th May, and  get involved with organising costumes, making banners, shields and swords,  and on the day itself, painting warrior faces, learning to write ogham riddles, taking part in the ancient Connacht Gamanraige Warrior Games (and get a certificate to prove it) and generally help make this the best Táin March ever.  Visit www.rathcroghan.iefor more details.

22nd & 23rd May 2015

King House - Paths to freedom & 1916
The two-day event will take the form of a day of lectures in King House on Friday May 22 and half day on Saturday 23rd May  followed by a musical evening on May 23 – with broadcaster Myles Dungan the Master of Ceremonies on both days .  The lectures will feature well-known expert speakers from the worlds of TV, radio and academia, with a local perspective on Cumann na mBan and the struggle for women’s emancipation.
An exciting  musical evening has also been included in the programme this year which will fill King House with songs and stories from World War 1, performed by The Brook Singers, with soloists Sadhbh Burt Fitzgerald, Jonathan Creasy, actor/tenor Brendan MacQuaile, pianist Ronan Murray and Simon Morgan.
We were delighted to be included in Kathleen Mangan's article on Ireland as a gourmet food destination.  See the full article here
