Lough Key, Lough Gara & Lough Boderg to the North and Lough Ree to the east.

Roscommon Town is the capital of the county, rich in historical associations and containing many impressive buildings. Roscommon offers the visitor a wide range of shopping, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, amenities and activities.
For sports enthusiasts Roscommon offers extensive walks, fishing, boating, and horse riding.
For race goers, Roscommon Race Course hosts meetings in Summer and Autumn. Golfers can play a round at 3 excellent 18-hole golf courses in the region. The courses are located in Roscommon town,
Athlone (15 miles) and Glasson (25 miles). There is long established 9-hole golf course in Strokestown (18 miles), and the long established and very popular 9-hole course in Castlerea (20 miles).

Roscommon Town Attractions:

• County Museum and Tourist Office - Located beside Gleeson's featuring the unique
"Star of David" window.
• Roscommon Jail - Built in the early 18th Century was originally a jail, then lunatic asylum and later
a private hospital. It has recently been developed into a residential / shopping complex.
Roscommon Castle - Located in the heart of our award winning Loughnaneane Park, built in 1269 and now a national monument.
Sacred Heart Church - Built at the turn of the 19th century the church by Italian artists, the church
dominates the town with its 52m high spire.
Roscommon Abbey - Dominican Priory founded in 1253, and the burial place of the last High King
of Ireland - Phelim O'Connor.
Roscommon Library - Built in 1783 is one of the most modern county libraries in the country; also known as the Old Infirmary
